So I went to my professors' (Rainier Maria Cruz and Meneer Marcelo) Art Talk @ Makati yesterday. Too bad I was late but still able to hear everything from Sir Rai. Lucky me. He's smart, funny, approachable, open-minded(lol), sobrang imba but still humble, and inspiring... osige, handsome na din. I can't describe Sir Meneer because, let's say, 'di kame close. All I know is that he's amazing and I think it's pretty obvious. I admire Sir Meneer like how I admire Sir Rai.

 "Magsimula sa pangarap na mabangis."

I don't know (yet) my forte when it comes to art. I have to try so many things before I figure it out. Art Talks like this is helpful for students like me. There were words mentioned and artworks that inspired me to get out of my shell. I was intimidated when I joined UST on the spot painting contest. I wanted to compete but when I entered UST, imbang gawa na kaagad yung sumalubong saken. Dafuq! Pero si Sir rai, yung beginner na artwork nya, sinali nya kagad sa contest. Try lang ng try - "Kapalan ang mukha." Then I realized that it was right. Wala nga naman mawawala.  You'll never know what you're going to miss.

I saw a lot of his artworks. I can say that each and every one of them took a lot of effort. As in, A LOT! Sobrang detailed, maayos yung render, etc. at kahit iniitiman na yung mga street art nya, di sya nagpapatalo, pinapatungan nya ulit. But this one got my heart broken (refer to the photo @ your right). Sorry for the blurry picture. It's a photo of wall paiting, kasing taas ng 5 1/2 na taong magkakapatong vertically, na pagkatapos paghirapan ay pinunyeta lang ng officials. I saw how they dedicated themselves (Sir showed us the video) and as a young artist who also has the passion for arts, it hurts! Nadama ko yung sakit. And Sir Rai was right about what he said... "Natakot sila sa sarili nilang multo." But this was not a hinder to continue what he has been doing... and I think that makes Sir Rai a great artist.

Paper Tiger Enthralled on a Lotus Flower

'I do not care how rapid I came.

I do not heed how I landed.
I do not regard if I failed to arrive firstly.
I will have thousands of reasons posted on a huge and stretched wall,
On why I came striving.
Why I perfectly disembarked but obstructed.
And why I came lastly.

I do not care about the valuables she was already given.
I do not heed how far she was already taken.
I do not regard how high they have already proceeded.
I will have thousands of purposes forged in most truthful words,
On how I adore her.
How I could endlessly reach her.
And how I could wait for her.

I do not care for their measures of wealth.
I do not heed for the objects they have exhibited.
I do not regard the days they have given her smiles.
I will have thousands of means even if it is just countable,
On how I shall make her witness the materials she have not seen.
How I shall force her to experience the things she has not felt.
And how I shall create her to be joyous for the things she has not laughed for.

I do not care if they would displease her.
I do not heed if I am much lighter.
I do not regard if I could not roam with her.
I will have thousands of engagements, dauntless and illuminated,
On how I must bestow her a foundation of shelter.
How I must be stronger than her.
And how I must eternally pursue her.

I do not care if they presume I would decline.
I do not heed if they would pull and sink me down.
I do not regard if they would hinder my path.
I will have thousands of undiminished persistence to follow and revoke her, just like how
Rapid I came.
How then I landed.
Even if I would arrive lastly.'
